At PVpharm, we aim to work with pharmaceutical, biotech, and MedTech companies, providing new ideas and making solutions that make health better for everyone.
We believe that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can really change the way we do pharmacovigilance, improving our work every day. The large revolution in the implementation of tools that use AI in the day-to-day work of pharmacovigilance is undeniable, but we must keep a critical and analytical eye. That is why at PVpharm we have created a code of ethics for the use of AI to establish guidelines to be followed to ensure a safe, legal, and innovative use.
Principles:
- Humanity: support human decision-making, not replace it.
- Legality: comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Beneficence: improve public health.
- Non-maleficence: not to harm patients.
- Innovation: seeking new ways to improve patient safety.
Specific Points:
- Human decisions. We will use AI tools as methodological support to our work, at all times a qualified person will be responsible for making decisions or supervising the work of artificial intelligence.
- Process optimization. PVpharm will use AI tools to automate repetitive tasks, and to allow Pharmacovigilance professionals to focus on more complex and higher value tasks, such as assessing drug risks, ensuring their safety and efficacy for patients.
- Data Privacy and Security. At PVpharm we are committed to the security and privacy of our customers’ data. In addition, we are very aware of the sensitivity of patients’ health information and the importance of protecting them from cyber-attacks.
- Legal compliance. We will only use tools based on Artificial Intelligence that comply with the legislation and regulations applicable to this matter. Likewise, the guidelines and recommendations for use published by the competent authorities will be followed.
- Auditability. AI tools should be as transparent as possible to ensure that they are used effectively and ethically. In addition, pharmacovigilance professionals should be able to understand how they work and how they are based on data in order to be auditable.
- Validity and reliability. AI tools will undergo regular and rigorous quality controls to ensure that the data obtained are accurate and reliable.
- Ongoing training. PVpharm staff will be trained in the use of AI tools in order to understand how they are used and their ethical limitations.
- Ongoing review. This code of ethics will be reviewed and updated periodically, to reflect advances in AI technology and changes in the needs of the pharmaceutical industry.
